The range of new Toyota SUVs and trucks offers several models capable of handling the task with excellence. Let’s take a look at the different Toyota models, specifically trucks and SUVs, and what they offer in terms of towing capacity.

Toyota C-HR

The Toyota C-HR models from 2021 to 2023 are primarily designed for urban use and highway driving, excelling in fuel economy and efficiency within their segment. However, they are not designed for towing. Like many competing models, it is not recommended to tow with the Toyota C-H

Toyota RAV4 – Up to 3,500 lbs – One of the Best Towing Capacities in its Segment

The Toyota RAV4 has many trims, but each comes equipped with a powerful 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. This engine allows the majority of RAV4 trims to tow up to 1,500 lbs, while the more robust Trail AWD version can tow up to 3,500 lbs. This is one of the best towing capacities in its segment. Generally, a vehicle with a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs can potentially tow a variety of items, such as a small boat or a small camping trailer.

Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and Prime – Up to 2,500 lbs

It is rare to find a hybrid SUV capable of towing, but the RAV4 Hybrid is an exception. It can tow up to 1,750 lbs, which is more than many gasoline-powered SUVs like the Mazda CX-5 or the Honda CR-V. Additionally, if fuel efficiency is a priority for you, you might prefer the RAV4 Prime, Toyota’s plug-in hybrid SUV model. In addition to being a favorite in our Canadian market, the 2023 RAV4 Prime can tow up to 2,500 lbs. This means that regardless of the engine you prefer in your RAV4, whether hybrid or plug-in, you can still tow up to three new motorcycles without any issues.

Toyota Highlander – Up to 5,000 lbs

With its powerful 3.5-liter V6 engine, the Toyota Highlander is not afraid of towing. You can confidently hitch up to 5,000 lbs to the rear, perfect for heading out on an adventure with a small camper or a simple horse trailer.

Toyota Highlander Hybrid – Up to 3,500 lbs

The 2022-2023 Highlander Hybrid has a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs despite its fuel-efficient engine. This is more than rivals like the Mazda CX-9 and Kia Sorento, which do not have hybrid engines. If you own a single-axle trailer or a pop-up camper, then no worries—the Highlander Hybrid is for you.

Toyota 4Runner – Up to 5,000 lbs

The Toyota 4Runner is a robust, high-performing SUV capable of venturing far off the beaten path. It can also tow up to 5,000 lbs confidently, which is more than a Jeep Wrangler. Are you heading on a road trip to the lake with your medium-sized boat or large utility trailer? The 4Runner can get you there.

Toyota Venza

The Toyota 4Runner is a robust, high-performing SUV capable of venturing far off the beaten path. It can also tow up to 5,000 lbs confidently, which is more than a Jeep Wrangler. Are you heading on a road trip to the lake with your medium-sized boat or large utility trailer? The 4Runner can get you there.

Toyota Sequoia – Up to 9,000 lbs

The Toyota Sequoia is essentially a more luxurious, comfortable, and refined version of the Toyota Tundra, but with an SUV body. Its powerful standard twin-turbo V6 hybrid powertrain offers an excellent towing capacity ranging from 9,000 to 9,120 lbs depending on the 2023 version. However, Toyota Canada recommends not exceeding the very high limit of 9,000 lbs. You won’t need more to tow something as large as a big camping trailer!

Toyota Tundra – Up to 11,100 lbs

The 2023 Toyota Tundra is Toyota’s most powerful model in terms of towing capacity. Powered by a standard V8 engine, the Tundra can tow up to 11,100 lbs with its Double Cab Limited version. In the gasoline CrewMax models, the 2023 Tundra can tow up to 7,300 lbs, and the hybrid CrewMax models have a maximum towing capacity of 11,170 lbs! Already impressed? Wait until you know that this Toyota pickup can haul a large horse trailer or a wide travel trailer while you’re behind the wheel. That’s heavy-duty!

Toyota Tacoma – Up to 6,500 lbs

The very popular Toyota Tacoma can easily tow 6,400 lbs with double cab models, and 6,500 lbs with access cab models. This makes towing a large caravan a breeze for this Toyota truck.
